Despite a still difficult housing market, developers are continuing to build condos in the downtown area. The latest is the 2nd tower of Riverfront Place, which begins Friday morning with a groundbreaking ceremony. Columns for the tower are already in the process of being installed.
The developers of the project say it is already 50% sold, and has full bank financing to be on schedule for opening in the summer of 2011. The $29.1 million dollar project on the Missouri River will have 51 homes ranging in size from 929 to over 4000 square feet. It will also include a rooftop fitness center, owners’ lounge and roof deck, heated parking, and private balconies. Prices start at $255,000. The second tower will have an environmentally friendly roof system on the third floor with space for urban gardens.
But the project comes at a difficult time for housing downtown. Omaha’s Midtown Crossing project is nearing completion while some other condo projects like the Wall Street Towers have stalled.
